Who We Are
We opened ten years ago with one mirrored room, a loud speaker, and a rule we still keep: nobody stands in the corner. Two thousand students later, Downtown Dance Academy is the place where siblings tag in, parents stay for the whole class, and somebody's grandma knows every kid's name.
Recreational classes are for the joy of it — moving, laughing, getting a little sweaty on a Tuesday. Competitive teams are for the ones who catch the bug and want the floor. Both live under the same roof, and both get the same energy from us. Beginners are not just welcome here; they're the whole point.
Come for a season. Most families stay for years.
A Taste of the Floor
A preview of what we teach. Full schedules — days, times, levels, and age groups — go out with your registration packet for the 2026/27 season.
The foundation under everything else. Barre work, clean lines, and real technique taught with patience — never with a raised voice. Our youngest dancers start with imagination and games; older students build the strength and control that carries into every other style.
Big, bright, and unapologetically fun. Turns, leaps, sharp isolations, and choreography that ends up stuck in your head all week. This is the class where shy kids find their stage face and adults remember they used to love this.
Loud, sweaty, judgment-free. Grooves, foundations, freestyle, and choreography built off the music instead of the count. Cyphers happen. Everybody claps. Nobody gets laughed at — that's the deal.

Hip-Hop & Street Styles Lead
Maya grew up battling in community center cyphers before touring three seasons as a backup dancer, and she's been Downtown's street styles lead for six years. Her classes run loud, sweaty, and judgment-free — beginners learn to stop counting and start listening, and her competitive Rewind Crew has medaled at nationals three years running.
Breaking & Foundations
Jonas found breaking at fifteen in his cousin's garage and never really left the floor. Fifteen years later he's taught everyone from six-year-olds learning their first freeze to adults who swore they had two left feet. Patient to a fault and secretly the funniest person in the building, he builds dancers from the ground up — footwork, freezes, power, and the confidence to throw it all in a circle of strangers. Ask him about the time he battled in three countries in one weekend.
